Rachel Stevens 'shaken' after witnessing terrifying gun attack in London restaurant

Pop star Rachel Stevens was caught up in a terrifying gun attack as she enjoyed a quiet meal with her family at a popular celebrity restaurant.

A gunman carrying two pistols and wearing a motorbike helmet chased another man into the busy restaurant packed with diners, last night.

The star of Strictly Come Dancing and close family members, including fiance Alex Bourne, looked on in horror as the gunman opened fire and shot a 31-year-old man in the leg and a 15-year-old boy in the arm.

The two people who were wounded were in the delicatessen part of the Harry Morgan restaurant buying takeaway food when the attacker opened fire, the Metropolitan Police said.

Eyewitnesses said five shots were fired as diners threw themselves to the floor screaming. The restaurant was strewn with broken glass and furniture.

Also caught up in the violence was the BBC chief economics correspondent Hugh Pym.

Mr Pym said: 'I immediately went to ground and pulled my 15-year-old son under the table.

'We were aware of a guy running through.

'He didn't appear as if he had a weapon - it felt like he was the victim.

Rachel, seen in London yesterday, was robbed outside her home in London just a few weeks ago

The attack happened at a branch of the restaurant in St John's Wood, west London.

Pym continued: 'We were under the table and everyone was shouting 'stay down, stay down'. 'Obviously there was a lot of broken glass and people gradually emerged from the tables.

'People were pretty shaken up and were wailing in shock more than anything else.'

One man working at the restaurant, who did not want to be named, confirmed the 31-year-old former member of S Club 7 had been enjoying a meal at the popular restaurant at the time.

'The restaurant was full at the time and I think there were about five shots fired,' he said.

A spokeswoman for Miss Stevens said last night: 'Rachel and her family were dining at a restaurant where gunshots were fired. It was frightening experience for everybody there but none of the diners were hurt.'

She added that Miss Stevens was shaken up and shocked but otherwise unharmed and had gone home.

The attack comes just weeks after she was robbed of her jewellery by three men who followed her to her home in nearby Regents Park.

The items believed to be stolen included her engagement ring, a necklace and a Rolex watch.

Eyewitness, Billy Osbourne, was also in the restaurant and saw the first man run in.

'Then all of a sudden a guy in a motorbike helmet came in - he had two automatic pistols and he starts firing at the guy,' he told the BBC.

'As soon as I smelled the cordite I was under the table.

'Everyone was screaming and hitting the deck.

'It was unbelievable - it was a packed restaurant and it does not appear anybody [among the diners] was hurt.'

A spokesman for the Met Police said they were called at 9.10pm to reports of a shooting.

A man in his 30s suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and a 15-year-old boy was injured by glass.

'Both have been taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they are not life threatening,' he added.

No arrests have been made.

Mohamed Hamud, 40, a waiter working at the nearby Sahara restaurant, said: 'One guy was running down the street and the other guy was running after him.

'People must have seen the gun because they started jumping out of the way and throwing themselves on the floor. I've never seen anything like it except in action films.'

Harry Morgan's was established in 1948 by a London butcher and has been shortlisted in the Evening Standard Restaurant Awards.

Rachel Stevens joins Strop Club as she storms out on fiancé Alex over dinner

Rachel Stevens stormed out of a restaurant last Wednesday after a row with fiancé Alex Bourne – raising doubts about their forthcoming wedding.

It is the latest unhappy episode for the 31-year-old former S Club singer after her diamond engagement ring was stolen two weeks ago.

A witness who saw the row at Joe Allen’s restaurant in London’s Covent Garden said: ‘All of a sudden Rachel just erupted and screamed at Alex, “That’s it. That is absolutely it.”

'She almost up-ended the table she was in such a rage.

'She stormed out with her Chanel bag, leaving Alex looking very red-faced.’

I’m told that even TV host Jerry Springer, who was at the next table, looked embarrassed for Rachel and Alex.

Rachel's priceless engagement ring was stolen last week after three men ambushed the singer at her £800,000 flat in north London.

Spotted shopping in Primrose Hill in London on Friday, she had replaced the ring with a simple gold band.

The Strictly Come Dancing star was forced to hand over her diamond engagement ring, a necklace and her Rolex watch.

Rachel, 31, who came second in last year's Strictly Come Dancing show, was left badly shaken after robbers shouted: 'Give us the f****** stuff!' and demanded the engagement ring given to her by fiancé .

The couple are just a few months away from their wedding which is set to take place in August.

Talking about her impending marriage, she said: 'My dress is going to be a full-on meringue.'

Rachel Stevens beauty Q&A

Bride-to-be Rachel Stevens, 31, reveals her must-haves for looking sexy for her fiancé Alex Bourne…

If you were stuck on a desert island, which beauty products would you want with you?
Lip balm, Caudalíe Beauty Elixir spray to cool me down, Lancaster sun cream and Tan Maximiser!

What is your lazy Sunday beauty routine?
I love a bath with aromatherapy essential oils, a walk in the park, a picnic of delicious food if the sun is shining and, in the evening, maybe a cheeky massage from Alex.

When you have a girly night in, what do you do?
When I have a night in with the girls, I love a takeaway, a great movie and a bottle of wine. We normally end up talking about beauty products and pampering ourselves for ages.

What are your beauty seduction tools?

Definitely not lipgloss – Alex hates it! I think the best beauty seducer is sexy hair and not much else…

What have you learned from your hair and make-up team?
I’ve learned that if you vary your hair products from time to time, it keeps your hair in great shape and condition, so experiment with different products.

Who does your hair normally?
I have my hair cut and styled by Michael Charalambous at Nyumba and Adam Reed at Percy & Reed is my colourist – they’re both fantastic.

Which beauty products do you splurge or save on?
I save on lip balm and often use Blistex, and for splurges I’m very lucky because I get sent lots of
expensive products to test.

Do you mind getting papped without make-up on?
It depends what day it is and how hormonal I am, to be honest!

Which beauty icons do you admire?
Brigitte Bardot, Christy Turlington and Jean Shrimpton – they have a real sense of style and beauty that I love.

How do you get your make-up to last all night?

Touch-ups! Using a good make-up primer like YSL works, too.

What do you like and dislike most about your face or body?

My legs are my biggest dislike, but I guess we all have niggles. My neck and shoulders are an area I’m much happier with.

Would you have surgery or Botox?

I wouldn’t at the moment, but never say never.

Do you steal anything from Alex?

His razor.

Did your mum ever give you any beauty advice?

My mum is a hairdresser, so she has passed on lots of must-haves and tips from the trade. That’s how I was introduced to Gliss. She recommended the Shine Tonic a long time ago and I’ve not stopped using it since.

Primeval axed after three series

Science fiction drama series Primeval has been axed after "three very successful series", ITV has confirmed.

Starring Ben Miller, Douglas Henshall, and ex-S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt, the show followed a group of scientists studying prehistoric creatures.

"High quality drama remains a key part of the ITV schedule, although our current focus is on post-watershed production," ITV said in a statement.

The show had an average audiences of about five million this year.

The figure was down from around six million for the first two series.

Earlier this year, ITV announced 600 job cuts and says it is now aiming to cut a further £40m in 2010.

Primeval may have suffered because of the big-budget computer effects needed to generate its fantastical creatures.

Website Total Sci-Fi said it had been told by a source that Primeval's production team were "devastated" but that they had "every intention of keeping Primeval alive in other ways".
